About the role#
As a Human Interface Design Intern at General Motors, you will work on next-generation in-vehicle experiences. You will join a team focused on crafting intuitive, human-centered designs across vehicles, digital platforms, and design systems. Interns will operate within areas such as vehicle ecosystems, advanced UX prototyping, or web and service platforms to support our vision of zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create user experiences across products and platforms.
- Balance user needs, technical constraints, and business objectives.
- Develop production interaction designs that follow established guidelines.
- Produce design deliverables including sketches, drawings, mockups, animations, and prototypes.
- Release production specifications and assets to software engineering teams.
- Present work to peers and leadership.
- Participate in design critiques to guide project decisions.
- Work with product teams and engineers to execute user interface designs.
What you'll need#
- Pursuit of a bachelor's or advanced degree in User Experience Design, Human Computer Interaction, Integrated Design, Design Science, Product Design, Fine Arts, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Graduation date between December 2027 and May 2029.
- Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week, during the summer of 2027.
- Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and prototyping software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage relationships and collaborate effectively.
- Initiative, self-direction, and the ability to work through ambiguity.
- A portfolio submission is required for consideration.
Location & details#
- Location: Warren, Michigan.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (expectation of three days onsite per week if located within 50 miles of the Global Technical Center).
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Start Dates: May or June 2027.
- Employment: Full-time.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
