GBH Archives Internship - Fall 2026 (AAPB Exhibit Curator)

About the role#

The GBH Archives is offering a paid, part-time internship for a graduate student to serve as an American Archive of Public Broadcasting (AAPB) Exhibit Curator. This role involves collaborating with the Media Historian and the AAPB team to research, develop, and publish a digital exhibit on the AAPB website. Interns will gain hands-on experience in digital media curation, archival research, and metadata improvement while exploring the history of public broadcasting.

What you'll do#

• Select an exhibit topic and identify relevant AAPB records for inclusion.
• Draft a complete exhibit narrative and section narratives for the AAPB website.
• Develop ancillary exhibit materials, such as images, interactive maps, and timelines.
• Improve metadata for select records included in the exhibit.
• Gain knowledge and practical experience in digital media curation and audiovisual preservation.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an accredited graduate program.
• Graduate coursework in U.S. History, Media Studies, Museum Studies, or Library Science.
• Knowledge of U.S. history since 1950.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to conduct research using authoritative sources, follow work plans, and meet deadlines.

Location & details#

• Term: Fall 2026 (September 14th to December 4th).
• Modality: Hybrid (based in Boston, Massachusetts).
• Commitment: Part-time, minimum of 15 hours per week between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
• Compensation: Paid position.
