About the role#
This internship offers Civil Engineering students the chance to gain hands-on experience within our Transportation market. You will join our Traffic Group for the Summer 2027 term. You will work alongside industry experts in a collaborative environment and receive mentorship from experienced engineers. We offer rotational opportunities for students who are still determining their specific career path.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the layout and design of traffic signals, roadway lighting, pavement markings, and signing.
- Perform traffic volume analysis, forecasting, and analyze traffic operations to determine levels of service.
- Review crash data to identify correctable patterns.
- Prepare Traffic Impact Study and Traffic Design Study documents.
- Use traffic simulation modeling tools to generate operational data and graphics.
- Assist with design and 3D modeling of bridges and geometric layouts.
- Help prepare plan quantities and cost estimates.
- Support quality control processes and follow client design standards.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplined design team and participate in field assignments like construction inspections.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a BS or MS in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited program.
- Completed at least two years of school.
- A 2.7 GPA is strongly preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel is preferred.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Involvement in campus, community, or volunteer organizations.
- Prior internship or related experience is a plus.
Location & details#
- This position is based on-site in either Lenexa, Kansas, or Chesterfield, Missouri.
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- Sponsorship is not available for this role.
