About the role#
The Desert Sun is offering a sports internship focused on writing, video production, and social media. This program provides experience in covering prep and professional sports with a video-first perspective. Interns will work alongside sports, visuals, and features teams to deepen engagement with younger audiences. The internship runs from late August through November 2026.
What you'll do#
- Produce high-quality multimedia stories using photography, videography, and text.
- Shoot, edit, and publish vertical videos for platforms such as Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook Stories.
- Collaborate with newsroom colleagues on story development and visual strategy.
- Produce a minimum of five content packages per week across various mediums.
- Research written materials, graphics, and recordings.
- Travel to locations where news occurs.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a communications or journalism program at a college or university.
- Completion of at least one year of college.
- Knowledge of sports including football, basketball, tennis, and hockey.
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and required liability insurance.
- Strong fact-checking, reporting, and organizational skills.
