About the role#
This is a paid, full-time internship for Summer 2027. You will work within our bridge team to support client projects and gain hands-on experience in transportation infrastructure design. You will receive mentorship from experienced engineers throughout the program.
What you'll do#
- Perform 3D modeling, design, and drafting for transportation structures like bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and sign structures.
- Help with quantity calculations and contribute to cost estimates.
- Assist in the development of construction contract documents.
- Review shop and working drawings.
- Coordinate work activities with other disciplines.
- Review inspection reports and perform bridge load ratings under supervision.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited undergraduate or graduate Civil Engineering program with a focus on Structures.
- A demonstrated interest in bridge design through coursework or previous internships.
- A basic understanding of bridge design principles.
- Familiarity with CADD software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools like Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a design team.
- A willingness to learn from and communicate with experienced staff.
- Preferred experience includes 3D modeling software such as Revit, Civil 3D, and STADD.

- Locations: Chicago, Illinois and Schaumburg, Illinois.
- Work Modality: Hybrid.
- Compensation: $21.00 to $28.00 per hour, depending on experience and location.
