About the role#
GAI Consultants, Inc. is hiring a Civil Engineering Intern to join our Civil and Environmental Business Sector. This is a temporary, full-time position based in Overland Park, Kansas. You will work under the guidance of professional engineering staff to assist with project tasks and design challenges. This role involves local or regional travel, estimated at 20 to 40 percent of the time, for project-related work.
What you'll do#
- Assist project managers and engineers with daily project tasks.
- Develop detailed designs using computer software.
- Conduct technical and feasibility studies.
- Support Civil and Environmental design and permitting efforts.
- Ensure work products comply with safety, environmental, and client requirements.
- Learn new programs and skills related to the Power Delivery industry.
- Handle basic design challenges while escalating complex issues to senior staff.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program in engineering, preferably Civil Engineering.
- Junior or Senior standing if enrolled in an Electrical Engineering program.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and civil engineering design tasks.
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong problem-solving, team collaboration, and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret technical reports, journals, and government regulations.
- Ability to write business correspondence and present information to team members.
- Experience with drafting programs like AutoCAD and Revit is preferred.
- Mathematical skills commensurate with engineering discipline requirements.
