About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in the mining industry. You will work directly with a mentor in Health & Safety or Industrial Hygiene to solve real-world problems. Throughout the summer, you will interact with company leaders to discuss tactical steps for reducing workplace exposure and maintaining a safe environment. This is a full-time, paid position.
What you'll do#
- Collect samples of air, vapors, diesel particulate matter, acid mist, and dust.
- Use monitoring equipment such as dosimeters, air sampling pumps, chemical testing kits, and radiation equipment.
- Analyze industrial hygiene data and conduct personal noise dosimetry and ventilation surveys.
- Evaluate work areas for safety compliance and help implement hazard controls alongside site leadership.
- Develop sustaining health and safety programs.
- Apply regulatory standards and report findings with recommendations to mitigate chemical or physical exposure risks.
- Understand the hazards associated with various mining, processing, and manufacturing operations.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment at an accredited four-year university in Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field.
- Recent graduates who earned a degree in these fields within 12 months of the internship start date are also eligible.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate clearly in both oral and written forms.
- Capacity to work under pressure and follow complex safety instructions.
