About the role#
As a Software Engineering Intern at Freeform, you will build the core systems that power our autonomous metal 3D printing factories. You will work on mission-critical infrastructure, including controls, high-speed data acquisition, and geometry processing pipelines. This role bridges software and hardware, offering you the chance to contribute to real-world production solutions.
What you'll do#
- Support the design and development of software for production-scale metal 3D printing systems.
- Collaborate with process, control, and mechanical engineers to integrate control algorithms into production software.
- Assist in improving and scaling high-rate data acquisition, storage, and retrieval systems.
- Contribute to the software pipeline that converts customer part geometries into machine-ready print instructions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program for Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering at an ABET accredited institution.
- Experience through internships or engineering clubs like FSAE, Baja SAE, solar car, rocket club, or robotics, with programming experience in C or C++.
- Ability to work in ambiguous environments and iterate quickly.
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to collaborate across disciplines.
- A hands-on, problem-solving mindset and a willingness to take ownership of tasks.

- This internship is located on-site in Los Angeles, California.
- The term is for Summer 2027.
- This is a full-time, paid position.
