About the role#
As an Electrical Engineering Intern at Freeform, you will contribute to the design and development of custom electronics that power our autonomous metal 3D printing factories. You will work with an engineering team on projects that support electrical system design, PCB development, and integration. This role provides hands-on exposure to challenges in controls, sensing, and hardware-software integration. We encourage a first-principles approach to problem solving.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the design, development, and testing of reliable electronics and PCBs.
- Support circuit modeling and simulation to analyze performance and validate designs.
- Contribute to electrical architecture efforts, including schematic capture, component selection, prototyping, bring-up, debugging, and documentation.
- Participate in hands-on debugging using lab equipment, custom instrumentation, and test setups.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development, integration, and testing across mechanical and software systems.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in electrical engineering or computer engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Hands-on electrical experience from internships or engineering clubs like FSAE, Baja SAE, solar car, rocket club, or robotics club.
- A strong grasp of electrical engineering fundamentals and a comfort with taking a first-principles approach to problems.
- Preferred: Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in electrical engineering.
- Preferred: Familiarity with industrial automation, robotics, spacecraft avionics, or similar high-performance electromechanical systems.
- Preferred: Experience with sensors, embedded microcontroller design and firmware, FPGA development, data acquisition systems, or motion and scanning systems.
- Preferred: A collaborative mindset, strong communication skills, and a willingness to take ownership of tasks.
