About the role#
ProFound Therapeutics is seeking a motivated Co-Op to join the Proteomics team. This position offers hands-on experience in proteomics sample preparation, LC-MS/MS analysis, and workflow development for challenging protein classes. You will work under the supervision of senior scientists to contribute to therapeutic target discovery and validation. This role is open exclusively to current Northeastern University students.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to the Proteomics team mission of discovering and validating new therapeutic targets.
- Develop workflows using alternative proteases to improve protein sequence coverage.
- Optimize surfaceome enrichment and profiling of cell-surface and membrane proteins.
- Assist with secretome proteomics workflows for conditioned media.
- Support ubiquitylation screening, including enrichment and analysis of ubiquitin-remnant peptides.
- Perform proteomics sample preparation, LC-MS/MS analysis, data interpretation, and quality control.
- Troubleshoot methods, document results, and establish reproducible protocols.
- Maintain experimental records in Benchling and report findings to the scientific team.
- Review literature to contribute new ideas and methods for discovery.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in biochemistry, chemistry, analytical chemistry, cell biology, or a related field.
- Coursework or hands-on laboratory experience in protein biochemistry, cell biology, proteomics, or mass spectrometry.
- Strong communication, presentation, and collaborative skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work in a team.
- Experience with data analysis using Graphpad Prism and Microsoft Excel.
- Prior industry or academic research co-op experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with proteomics data analysis software and LC-MS/MS sample preparation is preferred.
- Coursework or research exposure to membrane proteins, secretome analysis, or PTM enrichment is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 2027 to June 2027).
- Modality: Full-time, 40 hours per week, 5 days on-site.
- Compensation: $25 - $35 per hour.
- Note: This is a paid, short-term engagement. It is not eligible for health and welfare benefits, though retirement benefits may be available after completing a set number of hours.
