About the role#
As a member of the protein science team, you will help transform computationally designed vaccine immunogens into well-characterized proteins. You will produce antigens for validation and in-vivo studies while developing assays to characterize them. This position is open to current Northeastern University students for the Winter 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Express recombinant vaccine antigens and antibodies in mammalian expression systems, including small-scale transient transfection and scale-up.
- Purify proteins using affinity and size-exclusion chromatography on ÄKTA systems.
- Characterize protein quality and stability using SDS-PAGE, analytical SEC, and thermal stability methods such as DSF.
- Contribute to the development and execution of binding and functional assays, including ELISA and bio-layer interferometry, to assess antigenicity against panels of monoclonal antibodies.
- Document experiments in the Benchling electronic lab notebook.
- Present results at team meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a BS or MS program in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- Hands-on laboratory experience, such as SDS-PAGE, solution preparation, and accurate pipetting.
- Experience with mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique.
- Strong organizational, record-keeping, and communication skills.
- Exposure to protein purification, chromatography, or plate-based assays like ELISA is preferred.

- Term: January 2027 to June 2027.
- Modality: On-site, 40 hours per week.
- Compensation: $25 to $35 per hour.
