Field Engineer Intern I - Heavy Civil

About the role#

This internship is a 12-week program designed to provide hands-on experience within the Heavy Civil division. You will gain exposure to core operational areas including safety, surveying, estimating, project supervision, and field engineering, working directly on-site to support project goals.

What you'll do#

• Gain an understanding of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Hazard Safety Observations (HSO).
• Apply necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all jobsite activities.
• Observe and prevent safety incidents while conducting regular jobsite audits.
• Learn to interpret technical plans and set layouts.
• Understand surveying practices, including quantity estimation and unit conversions.
• Assess man-hours, time, and materials required for production.
• Communicate and delegate work plans to field crews.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a 4-year degree program for Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Science, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Full understanding of construction math concepts.
• Moderate to high proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to perform moderate to high levels of physical activity in a field-based construction environment.
