About the role#
This internship provides insight into the operations of a professional trading desk. You will work alongside the Treasurer, Portfolio Manager, and Traders to observe daily trading activities. The program covers pricing methodologies, funding strategies, hedging philosophies, and portfolio management decisions. You will also engage with cross-functional teams to see how risk, accounting, and IT functions support the bank’s trading and investment activities.
What you'll do#
- Develop a foundational understanding of how investment, funding, and mortgage portfolios are analyzed, structured, and managed.
- Assist with pricing of advances and facilitate transaction verification and documentation.
- Analyze how balance sheet instruments respond to changes in interest rate environments.
- Optimize reporting workflows and process automation initiatives.
- Support product and system testing by evaluating functionality, accuracy, and performance.
- Collect and validate market information from reliable sources.
- Conduct market research and ad hoc analyses to improve portfolio management strategies.
- Present market updates in bi-weekly bank meetings and deliver a final presentation on a relevant topic.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, economics, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of fixed income instruments and risk measures.
- Strong MS Excel skills, plus proficiency in VBA, SQL, and Power BI.
- Analytical, conceptual, and IT skills relevant to asset pricing and risk measurement.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Exposure to data science or computer science is preferred.
