    About the role#

    Families & Communities Rising (FCR) offers social work internships for students pursuing a BSW or MSW degree. This program provides hands-on experience in family engagement, case support, and community resource coordination. You will work under the guidance of a dedicated Practicum Supervisor to apply social work theory in a real-world setting. Placements are designed to align with CSWE 2022 EPAS competencies and can be tailored to your specific learning objectives.

    What you'll do#

    • Support children and families enrolled in Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
    • Participate in family assessments, home visits, and case planning.
    • Connect families with essential resources including housing, healthcare, mental health, and financial assistance.
    • Collaborate with educators, family advocates, and health professionals to provide a coordinated service approach.
    • Assist with the documentation of family contacts and services in program data systems.
    • Help plan and facilitate family engagement events and educational workshops.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an accredited BSW or MSW program.
    • Eligibility for an approved field placement through your college or university.
    • A working knowledge of social work ethics, practice principles, and confidentiality requirements.
    • The ability to pass required background checks and health clearances.
    • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
    • Comfort working with diverse children, families, and staff.

    • Location: Durham, North Carolina.
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Term: Rolling.
    • Compensation: This is an unpaid academic internship.
    • Schedule: Part-time hours coordinated with your academic program.
