About the role#
This internship focuses on integrating AI into core electrical operations for major construction projects in New York City. You will work at the intersection of data science and the electrical trade to build tools that replace manual processes with automated workflows. This is a practical role where your work directly impacts physical infrastructure and job-site safety.
What you'll do#
- Develop and refine Computer Vision models to read electrical symbols on PDF blueprints, automatically counting outlets, fixtures, and conduit runs to generate material bids.
- Build regression models using historical project data to predict man-hour overruns based on building type, weather patterns, and NYC-specific logistical delays.
- Implement real-time object detection for job-site cameras to monitor compliance with OSHA electrical safety protocols and Arc Flash protection requirements.
- Create a recommendation engine to optimize the timing of copper and bulk material purchases based on market price fluctuations and project timelines.
What you'll need#
- Current Junior or Senior status pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or Electrical Engineering with a focus on AI.
- Expert-level proficiency in writing clean, production-ready Python code.
- Familiarity with the AI toolkit, specifically OpenCV for blueprint analysis, Pandas for labor data, and frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- A basic understanding of electrical systems, including circuits, panels, and voltage, is a major plus.
- Willingness and ability to visit active construction sites to collect training data.
