Software Engineering Intern

About the role#

ESCO Maritime Solutions is seeking a Software Engineering Intern for the Summer 2026 term. This part-time, on-site position based in Yaphank, New York, offers hands-on experience in software and hardware integration within the defense and space manufacturing industry.

What you'll do#

• Perform software application and hardware integration testing.
• Execute formalized test procedures for application software.
• Conduct software quality assurance and track software and hardware defects using Jira.
• Configure and troubleshoot component networking on TCP/IP LANs.
• Set up and operate industrial hardware, including power supplies, single board computers, analog sensors, network smart switches, routers, and Linux and Windows servers.
• Assist in troubleshooting, debugging, and tracking software and firmware issues using tools such as MPLAB X and Visual Studio.
• Perform physical tasks including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs for short periods.

What you'll need#

• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student (sophomore level or later).
• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related STEM discipline; a GPA of 3.0 or better is preferred.
• Ability to work part-time hours, Monday through Friday during the day.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Windows 10/11 and Linux operating systems.
• Familiarity with software development tools, GUI testing, and client/server distributed architecture is preferred.
• Strong professional communication and technical writing skills, with the ability to work independently.
• Prior internship or direct experience in software engineering is preferred.
• Must be a US Person or a non-US Person eligible to obtain required Export Authorization.
