Manufacturing Engineer-Summer Intern

About the role#

ESCO Maritime Solutions is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer Summer Intern to join our team in Yaphank, New York. This full-time, paid internship offers hands-on experience in the manufacturing, integration, and testing of defense and space products. You will work on-site to support production goals and contribute to real-world engineering solutions.

What you'll do#

• Design, develop, and improve manufacturing processes, procedures, and layouts.
• Identify and implement cost-effective improvements, such as automation, tooling upgrades, and workflow optimizations.
• Conduct time and motion studies, process flow analysis, and capacity planning to increase efficiency and throughput.
• Collaborate with design, quality, and production teams to ensure seamless process integration.
• Provide technical support to production teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
• Investigate and troubleshoot process failures, quality problems, and equipment malfunctions, implementing corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain production documentation, including work instructions, process specifications, and standard operating procedures.
• Manage tooling and equipment needs using a Lean Manufacturing mindset.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a college degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite and an aptitude for learning new software packages.
• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, including the ability to deliver engaging impromptu speeches.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to learn and interpret technical data and specifications.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• A positive attitude toward problem-solving.
• Familiarity with CAD software (such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD) and experience with 3D printing are considered assets.
• This position requires the candidate to be a US Person or eligible to obtain required Export Authorization.
