About the role#
Empower is offering a 10-week summer internship for students interested in actuarial benefit consulting. This full-time program provides hands-on experience in financial services through direct involvement in business initiatives, mentorship, and professional development workshops. Interns will work on both individual and group projects, presenting their findings to leadership at the end of the program.
What you'll do#
- Analyze client data to develop pension plan liabilities.
- Reconcile census changes and associated gains or losses.
- Prepare ERISA funding valuations and government filings.
- Support annual employer match true-up and non-elective allocation calculations.
- Assist with cost projections, plan design optimization, and non-discrimination testing.
- Develop tools and models to improve actuarial workflows.
- Perform actuarial research and statistical analysis.
- Build knowledge of defined benefit, defined contribution, and retiree healthcare plans.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s program with at least two years of academic progress.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship.
- Ability to commute to Hartford, Connecticut for the full 10-week program from June 2, 2027, to August 6, 2027.
- Expected graduation and availability for full-time employment by mid-2028.
- Preferred majors include Mathematics and Statistics.
- Passage of one or more Society of Actuaries exams is preferred.
- Proficiency in VBA or Python is preferred.
- Comfort working with large datasets.
