About the role#
As a Corporate Actuarial Intern at Empower, you will participate in a 10-week summer program designed to build your professional and technical skills. You will work on high-impact initiatives alongside experienced actuaries, gaining exposure to real business decisions and actuarial functions. Each intern is paired with a manager, mentor, and executive sponsor to support their growth throughout the summer. You will complete both an individual and group project, culminating in a presentation to business leaders.
What you'll do#
- Support actuarial modeling, financial reporting, and strategic analysis.
- Contribute to actuarial model enhancements and internal reporting tools.
- Assist actuarial teams with data validation, assumption setting, and trend analysis.
- Help with tasks related to valuation, forecasting, or regulatory deliverables.
- Become familiar with the tools, systems, and workflows used across the company.
- Apply your academic coursework to inform business strategy.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master degree program with at least 2 years of academic progress.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25.
- Expected graduation date by mid-2028 with availability for full-time employment thereafter.
- Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Critical thinking and a proactive approach to learning.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship.
- Preferred: Passage of one or more Society of Actuaries exams, knowledge of SQL or programming languages (Python, VBA), and coursework in Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields.
Location & details#
- Location: Hartford, Connecticut (on-site).
- Term: Full-time, 10 weeks from June 2, 2027, to August 6, 2027.
- Compensation: $26.50 - $30.50 per hour, based on academic level and Society of Actuaries exams passed.
