    About the role#

    Emerson is seeking a Hardware Design Engineer Intern for Summer 2027 to help develop the physical hardware behind our DeltaV automation systems. You will join a team of electrical and mechanical engineers to work on controllers, I/O, and field devices used in critical industries like energy and life sciences. This is an on-site, full-time internship where you will gain professional experience by contributing to real projects from our backlog.

    What you'll do#

    • Partner with mentors and engineers on a dedicated summer project.
    • Perform schematic capture, component placement, and PCB layout.
    • Support mechanical design tasks including enclosures, mounting, and thermal management.
    • Use simulation tools to evaluate circuit and mechanical performance before building hardware.
    • Work in the lab to bring up, measure, and troubleshoot prototype hardware.
    • Participate in design reviews, testing, and agile ceremonies like sprint planning.
    • Document your work and present your results to the team at the end of the summer.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in an accredited college or university with plans to return to school after the internship.
    • Pursuit of a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
    • Junior or Senior standing.
    • Coursework or project experience with CAD tools for electrical or mechanical design.
    • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
    • Experience with tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence, SolidWorks, or Creo is preferred.
    • Exposure to circuit simulation, FPGA design, or programming languages like Python, C, or MATLAB.
    • Comfort using lab equipment like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies.
    • Familiarity with design fundamentals such as power supply design, signal integrity, or thermal management.
