About the role#
This co-op position is based in Sparwood, British Columbia, within the Coal Division. The role spans 8 or 12 months, beginning in September 2026. You will work on-site at mining operations, gaining hands-on experience in tailings engineering while receiving mentorship from industry specialists.
What you'll do#
- Adhere to all health and safety programs and policies.
- Manage instrument performance using GeoExplorer Software.
- Analyze and process data to support operational planning, reporting, and technical documentation.
- Conduct routine field tasks, including dam safety inspections, field data collection, and surveys.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and repairs on geotechnical equipment.
- Assist with audits and internal self-assessments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Prepare monthly engineering packages and participate in tailings meetings with senior site leadership.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on projects and evaluate technologies to improve business processes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics.
- A fundamental understanding of Geotechnical Engineering concepts.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent, without learner's restrictions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Ability to operate vehicles in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Willingness to work outdoors and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
