September 2026 Tailings Engineering Co-op

About the role#

This co-op position is based in Sparwood, British Columbia, within the Coal Division. The role spans 8 or 12 months, beginning in September 2026. You will work on-site at mining operations, gaining hands-on experience in tailings engineering while receiving mentorship from industry specialists.

What you'll do#

• Adhere to all health and safety programs and policies.
• Manage instrument performance using GeoExplorer Software.
• Analyze and process data to support operational planning, reporting, and technical documentation.
• Conduct routine field tasks, including dam safety inspections, field data collection, and surveys.
• Perform basic troubleshooting and repairs on geotechnical equipment.
• Assist with audits and internal self-assessments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Prepare monthly engineering packages and participate in tailings meetings with senior site leadership.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on projects and evaluate technologies to improve business processes.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics.
• A fundamental understanding of Geotechnical Engineering concepts.
• A valid Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent, without learner's restrictions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
• Ability to operate vehicles in various weather conditions and terrains.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Willingness to work outdoors and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
