Elk Valley Resources is seeking a Geotechnical/Geological Engineering Co-op student for an 8 or 12-month term beginning in September 2026. This full-time, paid position is based in Calgary and offers the opportunity to work alongside the Technical Services team on geotechnical design and monitoring for steelmaking coal mining operations.
What you'll do#
- Participate in and adhere to all health and safety programs and policies.
- Perform geotechnical assessments for pit slope excavations and waste rock dumps.
- Conduct stability and rockfall analyses for pit and natural slopes.
- Collaborate with senior geotechnical engineers on technical design projects.
- Assist with quarterly geological model updates and reconciliations.
- Support geotechnical monitoring, including the interpretation of ground movement and piezometric data.
- Manage drilling data centralization, instrumentation maintenance, and document tracking.
- Provide hazard management support and evaluate new technologies to improve business processes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program in Geological or Geotechnical Engineering.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent, without learner's restrictions.
- Ability to operate vehicles at operations in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously as a self-starter.
- Willingness to work in an outdoor environment.
