Elk Valley Resources is seeking a Mining Engineering Co-op student for an 8 or 12-month term starting in September 2026. This full-time, on-site position offers the opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world steelmaking coal mining operations under the guidance of experienced specialists.
What you'll do#
- Participate in and adhere to all health and safety programs and policies.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to develop daily, weekly, and monthly mine operations plans.
- Assist with mine planning and design, including pit and dump design, production scheduling, and optimization.
- Monitor and perform analyses of operating areas, including geotechnical evaluations of mine plans.
- Contribute to drilling, blasting, and surveying activities.
- Assist with the development, tracking, and reporting of mine permit compliance.
- Perform economic evaluations, productivity analyses, and support capital expenditure documentation.
- Evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to improve business processes.
What you'll need#
- Working towards an Undergraduate degree in Mining or Mineral Resource Engineering, or related fields including Civil, Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Computer Engineering.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or equivalent) without learner's restrictions.
- Ability to operate vehicles in various weather conditions and terrain.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively with diverse technical and operational personnel.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

- Term: Fall 2026 start.

- Compensation: This is a paid co-op position with financial assistance for travel expenses and co-op fees.
