Ecojustice is seeking a law student for a four-month summer placement in Toronto. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to public interest environmental law and policy. Students who demonstrate satisfactory performance during the summer term will be offered priority for an articling position for the 2027-28 term.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal, policy, and general research.
- Prepare legal memoranda, with a focus on environmental and administrative law.
- Provide general litigation support, including drafting pleadings, submissions, and preparing briefs of authorities.
- Assist with requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act and Access to Information Act.
- Respond to public inquiries regarding environmental law issues.
- Assist in researching and writing organizational reports.
- Interact with clients and non-governmental environmental organizations.
What you'll need#
- A demonstrated interest in environmental law and public interest work.
- Familiarity with environmental and administrative law.
- Excellent research and writing skills.
- Experience or interest in building collaborative partnerships with equity-deserving groups and incorporating justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation (JEDI-R) values into practice.
Location & details#
- Location: Toronto, Ontario (On-site).
- Term: Summer 2027 (4-month contract).
- Compensation: $4,523 per month.
- Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week).
