Software Design Co-op (Nuclear)

About the role#

The Software Design Co-op will report to the Software Design Supervisor and contribute to machine concepts, control software design, and system integration. This role involves working with PLCs, PCs, robotics, motion controllers, vision systems, and lasers to support projects from development through to installation at customer sites.

What you'll do#

• Assist in the design and development of PLC and PC-based software programs based on project requirements.
• Select, test, and integrate hardware and software components, including robots, sensors, analog devices, and vision systems.
• Debug and commission control systems at company facilities and customer sites.
• Collaborate with the Controls Engineering department to improve integration methods for safety, functionality, and cost reduction.
• Provide accurate project documentation and conduct technical training for customers regarding machine operation and programming.
• Verify software program completeness through thorough testing of machine functionality.
• Work with team members to meet project milestones and complete assigned duties.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a post-secondary engineering degree or diploma program, specifically in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering.
• Advanced computer skills in Excel.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to establish priorities while working with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment and coordinate activities across departments.
