Mechanical Design Co-op

About the role#

The Mechanical Design Co-op works with the Mechanical Design Lead and design teams to deliver custom automated manufacturing solutions. This role focuses on project execution, ensuring designs meet budget requirements and technical specifications while supporting the broader engineering team.

What you'll do#

• Perform engineering calculations for machine and tool designs, including strength of materials, horsepower, speed, temperature, pressure, and force.
• Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine dimensions, hardness, and material requirements.
• Produce working drawings, detail drawings, and bills of materials using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Review designs and systems to ensure compliance with standards such as OSHA, CE, or specific customer requirements.
• Examine the feasibility of using specific machines for sequential operations.
• Liaise with vendors to obtain technical information and specifications.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and communicate design changes to the Applications Manager.
• Monitor project milestones and notify relevant departments of potential delays.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a post-secondary engineering program (degree or diploma) specializing in mechanical, mechatronics, robotics and automation, or systems engineering.
• Enrollment in an academic program that requires a co-op or work term.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to establish priorities with minimal supervision.
• A self-starting approach with the ability to work effectively within a team.
• Hands-on experience or understanding of robotics, control systems, and machine operation is desirable.
