About the role#
This summer internship program offers students the chance to work within the Duke Energy Information Technology organization. You will collaborate with designers, developers, and business stakeholders to create digital experiences for our customers and employees. This role provides hands-on experience in the energy industry while helping you build a professional network.
What you'll do#
- Conduct user research and gather customer insights.
- Create personas, journey maps, and experience maps.
- Develop spec-driven prototypes by writing requirements and specifications.
- Participate in usability testing and user feedback sessions.
- Support design thinking workshops and innovation initiatives.
- Contribute to product design and digital experience improvements.
- Learn about accessibility, inclusive design, and UX best practices.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to solve business and technology challenges.
- Network with peers, mentors, and senior leaders across the organization.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program in UX Design, HCI, Graphic Design, Product Design, Psychology, Economics, Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, though a 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Graduation date must be May 2027 or later.
- A valid driver's license.
- Familiarity with UX design, user research, wireframing, prototyping, information architecture, and interaction design.
- Experience with tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or Miro.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Demonstrated leadership through clubs, projects, or volunteer work.
- A proactive, curious, and self-driven approach to learning.
- Previous internship experience is a plus.
