About the role#
Duininck Companies offers a hands-on internship for students interested in heavy highway and heavy civil construction. You will work directly with our teams to gain experience in project operations, field management, and technical oversight. This role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and requires travel to project sites across Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Iowa.
What you'll do#
- Shadow superintendents, project managers, estimators, and crew leads.
- Work alongside laborers on road construction projects.
- Assist with the management of small crews, scheduling, and critical path timelines.
- Document daily activities, crew time, and progress reports.
- Conduct safety checks and ensure compliance with Personal Protection Equipment requirements.
- Participate in meetings with owners, architects, and engineers.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Assist with surveying, quality reporting, and quantity tracking.
- Use Bid2Win software for estimating tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor degree program for construction management, civil engineering, or construction engineering.
- Basic knowledge of construction methods, equipment, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical reports and manuals.
- A proactive, self-starting approach with the ability to multitask.
- Capability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to lift objects up to 80 pounds and perform physical tasks like bending, kneeling, and walking.
Location & details#
- Location: Spicer, MN (with travel required to project sites).
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time with potential for Saturday work and extended hours.
- Compensation: Paid position ($22 to $26 per hour depending on experience).
- Additional benefits: Paid time off, 401K with company match, and coverage for lodging, mileage, and meals while traveling.
