About the role#
Dominion Energy is seeking System Protection Technician Interns for the Summer 2027 term. This role provides hands-on experience in electric transmission and distribution. You will work alongside technicians to understand substation equipment, high-voltage diagnostic testing, protective relays, and control circuit troubleshooting. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Herndon and Loudoun, Virginia.
What you'll do#
- Review and interpret electrical design drawings.
- Assist with infrared scans and basic instrument checkout and repair.
- Participate in high-voltage diagnostic testing and relay testing.
- Support functional testing of protection systems and control circuits.
- Shadow System Protection Technicians to gain insight into substation equipment and field operations.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year degree program in a technical engineering discipline, such as Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- An anticipated graduation date of Winter 2027 or later.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and meet physical requirements, including a weight restriction of 290 pounds due to equipment limits.
