About the role#
The Director of Student Experience leads the co-curricular student experience at the Chicago Campus. This role focuses on student engagement, commuter life, and residential operations. You will foster a campus culture that promotes belonging and leadership for both commuter and residential students. This position requires active participation in a 24/7 on-call duty rotation to support campus safety and emergency response.
What you'll do#
- Develop and implement a commuter student engagement strategy.
- Create a regular calendar of campus activities, social events, and leadership opportunities.
- Lead the growth of student clubs and organizations while supporting faculty collaboration.
- Manage the full resident student life cycle, including housing operations and summer logistics.
- Provide reports on housing capacity, fill rates, and deposits.
- Collaborate with Residence Life staff and Physical Plant to maintain residence halls.
- Support the Dean of Students Office with student conduct processes.
- Assist the Title IX Coordinator with student training and case management.
- Oversee the hiring, training, and retention of Residence Life staff, including the creation of individualized growth plans.
- Serve as a liaison to Campus Safety and maintain emergency response protocols.
What you'll need#
- Master’s degree in social work, counseling, student development, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in student support services, residence life, or student activities in higher education.
- Experience in crisis management and the development of student success plans.
- Proven ability to design outreach programs that improve student retention.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to address crises calmly and effectively.
- Exceptional time management and organizational abilities.
- Dedication to fostering an equitable and inclusive environment.
- Familiarity with student support case-management technologies like Maxient is preferred.
- Knowledge of college student development theories.
- Previous experience working in Hispanic-Serving Institutions or other minority-serving institutions is preferred.
