Fall 2026 Research Internship

About the role#

The Democratic Governors Association (DGA) is seeking a Research Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This role supports the Research Team in promoting the agendas of Democratic governors and candidates, winning elections, and holding Republican opponents accountable. Interns will report to Research Associates for daily assignments and feedback.

What you'll do#

• Draft research memos on Republican candidates and governors regarding their policies and actions.
• Create state-specific issue memos for use in campaigns and with stakeholders.
• Monitor media and compile news articles related to the political landscape of governors and gubernatorial candidates.
• Transcribe media appearances of Republican governors and candidates for campaign communications.
• Assist the Research Team with special projects and administrative tasks as assigned.

What you'll need#

• Strong interest in current events and national, state, and local politics, with a commitment to the principles of the Democratic Party.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Docs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to cooperate with a diverse staff.
• High level of punctuality, attendance, and attention to detail.
• Ability to ask appropriate questions to gather information and complete tasks on time.
• Relevant academic background in fields such as Political Science, Communications, Journalism, History, Sociology, or Psychology.

Location & details#

• This is a paid internship with a $4,000 stipend.
• The role is hybrid, based in Washington, DC, with remote options available.
• A minimum commitment of 18 hours per week is required.
• The DGA can coordinate with academic institutions to facilitate course credit.
