Fall 2026 Communications Internship

About the role#

The Democratic Governors Association (DGA) is seeking Communications interns for the Fall 2026 term. This internship provides practical experience within the Communications Department, supporting staff across the Communications, Political, Digital, and Administrative teams. Interns report primarily to the Press Assistant for assignments and feedback.

What you'll do#

• Research policy initiatives and outcomes of Democratic governors and their opponents for campaign communications.
• Monitor media coverage and compile news articles regarding the political landscape of governors and gubernatorial candidates.
• Manage and maintain databases for press and political contacts.
• Produce meeting materials and news clip summaries for staff and governors.
• Draft social media content for publication.
• Assist with special projects and administrative tasks as assigned.

What you'll need#

• Strong commitment to the principles of the Democratic Party and interest in current events, national, state, and local politics.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Google Docs.
• Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse staff and fellow interns.
• Consistent attention to detail and ability to manage tasks to meet deadlines.
• Excellent punctuality and attendance.
• Preferred majors include Communications, Political Science, Journalism, or Public Health.

Location & details#

• This is a remote internship for the Fall 2026 term, with the option for those located in Washington, DC to use the office on a limited basis.
• This position is paid with a $4,000 program stipend.
• The role is full-time.
