Student Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Labor and Delivery

About the role#

The Student Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) in Labor and Delivery supports the surgical team by assisting in the preparation of the operating room and providing direct patient care during procedures. Working under the supervision of a registered nurse or a Certified Surgical Technologist, this role functions as a second scrub or direct assistant to the physician to ensure high-quality patient care.

What you'll do#

• Prepare the surgical suite and plan for upcoming procedures.
• Create and maintain a sterile field throughout the operation.
• Perform scrub duties and assist the circulating nurse and physician during intraoperative and OB procedures.
• Provide necessary equipment and supplies based on patient needs.
• Perform accurate counts of sponges, sharps, instruments, and supplies according to established protocols.
• Monitor and control the surgical environment.
• Prepare instruments and supplies for sterilization and participate in room cleanup after procedures.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in a state-approved Surgical Technologist program with at least two semesters of clinical study completed.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) - Provider certification.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of growth and development to provide age-appropriate patient care.
• No prior professional experience is required.
