About the role#
The Student Surgical Technologist assists in the preparation of the operating room and supports the delivery of patient care. Working under the supervision of a registered nurse or a Certified Surgical Technologist, this role focuses on maintaining a sterile environment and acting as a second scrub or direct assistant to the physician. You will gain experience providing patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
What you'll do#
- Prepare the surgical suite and plan for upcoming procedures.
- Perform scrub duties and assist the circulating nurse and physician during intraoperative or OB procedures.
- Create and maintain a sterile field throughout the surgery.
- Provide necessary equipment and supplies based on specific patient needs.
- Perform counts for sponges, sharps, supplies, and instruments according to policy.
- Monitor the surgical environment and prepare instruments for sterilization.
- Participate in room cleanup following procedures.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a state-approved Surgical Technologist program.
- Completion of at least two semesters of clinical course of study.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification.
