Pharmacy Intern

About the role#

As a Pharmacy Intern, you will bridge the gap between your didactic pharmacy education and real-world clinical practice. This program is designed to immerse you in pharmacy operations, providing hands-on experience under the direction of a preceptor. You will follow a comprehensive training roadmap, including Key Learning Experiences, to prepare for future responsibilities as a pharmacist. This role requires flexibility to work in your home store and travel to other locations within the market as business needs require.

What you'll do#

• Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly, including filling prescriptions promptly, safely, and accurately.
• Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
• Provide empathetic patient service, creating personalized moments at pick-up, via drive-thru, and over the phone.
• Offer counseling, field medical questions, and solicit medical history information under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
• Demonstrate consistent application of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication.
• Provide in-the-moment coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
• Complete basic inventory activities, such as processing medication deliveries, cycle counts, and returns.
• Strive to become immunization certified to provide patient vaccinations as permitted by state regulations.
• Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, professional standards, and ethical principles to ensure patient safety and privacy.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
• Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
• At least 1 year of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
• Ability to complete all required training within designated timeframes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to meet physical demands, including standing for extended periods, lifting up to 20 lbs, and performing repetitive tasks.
• Strong mathematical reasoning skills for prescription calculations and attention to detail for label accuracy.
