About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your classroom learning to real-world pharmacy operations. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap, gaining hands-on experience in store, district, and regional operations. This role prepares you for future responsibilities as a Pharmacist by immersing you in pharmacy workflows and patient care.
What you'll do#
- Follow company Standard Operating Procedures at every workstation.
- Manage pharmacy workflow tasks including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Provide empathy and care to patients while fielding medical questions and offering counseling under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication details.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Handle inventory activities such as cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and waiting bin management.
- Deliver health services including immunizations and point-of-care testing where permitted.
- Educate patients on vaccine importance and monitor for potential adverse reactions.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws regarding pharmacy practice and patient privacy.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- At least 1 year of experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Capacity to concentrate on tasks, pivot between duties, and ensure prescription label accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a focus on active listening.
- Ability to use math to solve pharmacy-related problems.
- Ability to work in your home store and travel to other locations across the market.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
