About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your classroom learning to real-world practice while preparing for a future Pharmacist role. Under the direction of a preceptor, you will follow a comprehensive training roadmap to gain hands-on experience in store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on supporting pharmacy teams to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient service while developing your professional skills.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap including key learning experiences and activities.
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly at every workstation.
- Ensure prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately.
- Provide caring service and contribute to positive patient experiences.
- Offer to counsel, field medical questions, and solicit medical history under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication details.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members as your experience grows.
- Complete basic inventory activities like cycle counts and medication deliveries.
- Support immunizations, including educating patients and documenting information.
- Deliver additional health care services such as point-of-care testing where allowed by law.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and company policies.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by the state.
- At least 1 year of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to focus on tasks over extended periods.
- Mathematical reasoning skills for prescription calculations.
- Ability to pivot between tasks and resolve challenging patient interactions.
- Willingness to work at your home store and travel to other locations within the market.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, reach overhead, and lift up to 20 lbs.
