About the role#
CRABI Robotics is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team in Medford. You will help design a marine robot built to clean and inspect ships while they are in transit. This role requires creative design solutions that can withstand challenging flow and corrosion environments. This is a full-time, paid, 12-week internship for summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Design structures, mechanisms, and fixtures for the robot and its ancillary devices.
- Procure hardware and design the necessary tooling to bring your designs to life.
- Own a specific component, process, or system on our robotic platform, managing it from initial design requirements through to final testing.
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to integrate electrical, firmware, and guidance, navigation, and control requirements with vehicle hardware.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a 4-year degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- At least one summer of work experience in mechanical engineering or one year of practical experience on a student build team.
- Proficiency in CAD software like Solidworks, CATIA, or Siemens NX.
- Experience with hardware design, fabrication, and assembly.
- Background in mechanical analysis, including analytic and Finite Element Method (FEM/FEA).
- US work authorization is required. We do not offer sponsorship.
- Ability to complete the full 12-week internship in summer 2027.
- Helpful experience includes robotic hardware design, non-linear Finite Element Modeling (ANSYS or ABAQUS), CNC machining, GD&T practices, and hardware procurement.
