About the role#
You will own parts and sub-assemblies from concept through mass production. Since our robots are currently shipping to customers, your work will be tooled, built at volume, and used in homes within months. This role is for someone who wants to work with real hardware and build judgment by watching designs succeed or fail in a production environment.
What you'll do#
- Design parts and sub-assemblies within a defined architecture.
- Build your own prototypes, break them, and iterate.
- Run component-level testing for performance, durability, and variability.
- Write and execute accelerated test plans.
- Create production-ready 2D drawings.
- Work with vendors and contract manufacturers on DFM feedback, tooling reviews, and first article inspection.
- Collaborate with electrical, firmware, software, and industrial design teams.
- Build test fixtures, run tolerance studies, and troubleshoot life tests.
- Tear down returned units and update drawings.
What you'll need#
- A portfolio of parts or assemblies you designed and built through internships, projects, or research, with the ability to explain your design decisions.
- Familiarity with high-volume manufacturing processes like injection molding, die casting, stamping, or metal injection molding.
- An understanding of tolerances and how individual part dimensions affect an assembly.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and experience using CAD to build real hardware.
- Familiarity with engineering drawings and basic GD&T.
- A hands-on approach to prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting.
- The ability to reason from a failure back to a design or manufacturing cause.
- Currently pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Location & details#
