About the role#
We are looking for students to join our Cox Energy and Sustainability team as Building Automation Specialist Interns. You will work under the direction of experienced technicians and engineers to gain hands-on experience with the installation, commissioning, and optimization of building automation systems. This role involves working in both office and field environments to support commercial and industrial projects.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the installation, startup, and commissioning of building automation and HVAC control systems.
- Support point-to-point checkout, device verification, and functional testing.
- Troubleshoot sensors, actuators, control panels, and communication networks like BACnet and Modbus.
- Help technicians and engineers with field documentation, project records, and system reporting.
- Participate in system integration and verification for new construction and retrofit projects.
- Observe customer training and system turnover processes while following safety and OSHA guidelines.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, HVAC Engineering Technology, Building Automation, or a related technical field.
- Ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- A valid driver's license.
- Willingness to work in field environments, including mechanical rooms and rooftops.
