About the role#
This is a paid, full-time internship with the County of Berks Public Defender office. You will work on-site in Reading, Pennsylvania. The position is available on a rolling basis for students currently enrolled in law school.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda on various legal issues.
- Assist attorneys with data entry tasks.
- Handle miscellaneous typing and administrative data entry.
- Support research and writing efforts across all stages of legal representation.
What you'll need#
- Admission to an accredited law school.
- General knowledge of Pennsylvania criminal law.
- Familiarity with legal research platforms such as Westlaw or Lexis Nexis.
- Proficiency with Windows-based computer programs.
- Strong oratory, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage stress.

- Location: Reading, PA.
- Work environment: This role requires physical presence in the office and includes time in court settings. You will frequently sit, stand, and walk while using office equipment.
