    About the role#

    This is a paid, full-time internship with the County of Berks Public Defender office. You will work on-site in Reading, Pennsylvania. The position is available on a rolling basis for students currently enrolled in law school.

    What you'll do#

    • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda on various legal issues.
    • Assist attorneys with data entry tasks.
    • Handle miscellaneous typing and administrative data entry.
    • Support research and writing efforts across all stages of legal representation.

    What you'll need#

    • Admission to an accredited law school.
    • General knowledge of Pennsylvania criminal law.
    • Familiarity with legal research platforms such as Westlaw or Lexis Nexis.
    • Proficiency with Windows-based computer programs.
    • Strong oratory, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage stress.

    • Location: Reading, PA.
    • Work environment: This role requires physical presence in the office and includes time in court settings. You will frequently sit, stand, and walk while using office equipment.
