About the role#
This internship offers hands-on technical experience with a focus on cybersecurity. You will apply your technical knowledge while collaborating with project teams to design, implement, and support security solutions. This is a paid position requiring on-site work in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
What you'll do#
- Participate in the analysis, design, development, testing, and deployment of applications, web solutions, and cloud-native services.
- Support DevOps and DevSecOps activities, including work with Git repositories, build pipelines, and automated testing.
- Assist in the design and evaluation of cybersecurity solutions, covering vulnerability assessments, incident response, and secure configuration.
- Contribute to the integration of Microsoft 365 and other cloud services, including workflow automation and data flows.
- Monitor security tools to identify, log, and escalate potential threats.
- Document cybersecurity and network architectures to support audits, assessments, and system accreditation.
- Execute and document vulnerability assessments and security testing.
- Maintain cybersecurity runbooks, standard operating procedures, and incident response playbooks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure security requirements are included in system changes and upgrades.
- Provide technical assistance to users and project teams, and deliver presentations summarizing your work.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a sophomore or junior in an undergraduate program for Engineering, MIS/IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field.
- Intermediate understanding of programming concepts, object-oriented design, or databases.
- Familiarity with web and application development tools and languages.
- Understanding of fundamental cybersecurity principles, basic networking, and operating system concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with guidance.
- Experience on multi-disciplinary project teams or prior internships is preferred.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and Microsoft 365 services is a plus.
- Exposure to security tools like vulnerability scanners, log analysis tools, or network sniffers is preferred.
- Basic-level IT or cybersecurity certifications are a plus.
