About the role#
The Children and Family Law Division (CAFL) Hyannis Office offers internship positions for Winter 2027. Interns support lawyers and social workers representing children and parents in cases involving the Department of Children and Families. This includes child requiring assistance cases, contested adoptions, guardianship proceedings, and custody matters.
What you'll do#
- Perform client interviews and home or placement visits.
- Assist with case investigation to support trial preparation.
- Conduct legal research and writing for motion arguments and court hearings.
- Review pre-trial discovery and Department of Children and Families case files.
- Attend and participate in education-related matters, including suspension hearings and IEP meetings.
- Negotiate with opposing counsel and provide service advocacy.
What you'll need#
- A demonstrated commitment to zealous advocacy and the protection of constitutional and human rights.
- Access to reliable transportation for travel to courts and investigation locations.
- Access to a personal computer with home internet access for remote work.
- Agreement to keep all client representation information confidential.
- Majors in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, History, or English are relevant to this role.
