The Student Lab Assistant provides essential support for the maintenance, operation, and preparation of science laboratories at Columbus State Community College. This role involves working alongside department staff to ensure that lab materials and equipment are ready for student use, while maintaining a clean and organized laboratory environment. This is a paid, part-time position available for the Summer 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Assist department staff and faculty in the daily operation of science labs, including General Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Microbiology.
- Prepare materials, supplies, and solutions for laboratory sessions.
- Set up equipment carts and ensure all materials are ready for classroom use.
- Collect and store materials after use, ensuring laboratory benches are cleaned and sanitized.
- Monitor supply levels and assist with the check-in and storage of incoming inventory.
- Perform general maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
What you'll need#
- Must have Federal Work Study eligibility as part of your current Financial Aid package at Columbus State.
- Enrollment in at least six credit hours in a degree or certificate program for the Summer 2026 semester.
- High school diploma, certificate of attendance, or certificate of high school equivalence.
- Reliable transportation to ensure regular attendance.
- Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and maintain confidentiality.
- Note: Students are not eligible to assist with lab assignments if they are currently enrolled in the corresponding lab course.
- Preferred: Previous experience in a laboratory environment through work, volunteer, or academic settings.
Location & details#
- Location: Columbus, Ohio (On-site in Nestor Hall, Center for Technology and Learning, Union Hall, and Franklin Hall).
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., with a maximum of 20 hours per week.
- Target Majors: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Environmental Engineering.
