    About the role#

    The TRIO SSS Peer Mentor program connects upper-class students with incoming freshman and transfer students. Mentors serve as a resource to help new students adjust to college life, understand the TRIO SSS program, and access academic support. This role is a part-time student position at Columbia College.

    What you'll do#

    • Mentor 10 to 15 incoming students throughout the academic year.
    • Reach out to new participants before classes begin to answer questions and introduce them to program resources.
    • Meet with mentees in both individual and group settings.
    • Participate in all scheduled training programs each semester.
    • Maintain regular communication with the TRIO SSS Peer Mentor Coordinator.
    • Act as a positive role model and representative of the program on and off campus.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in the TRIO SSS program.
    • A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
    • Good academic standing.
    • Completion of the application form and a personal interview.
    • Attendance at mandatory training in the spring.
    • Majors in Psychology, Communications, or Sociology are encouraged to apply.

    • Compensation: $15 per hour.
