About the role#
Coeur Mining is seeking a student for a summer internship with the Metallurgical Team at the Kensington Mine. This role is based at a remote underground gold mine located 45 miles north of Juneau, Alaska. The internship lasts approximately 12 weeks, running from May through August 2027. You will work on-site, receive mentorship from industry professionals, and manage projects that impact mine operations. Interns also collaborate on a group presentation regarding company improvements, which culminates in an expenses-paid trip to the corporate office in Chicago.
What you'll do#
- Prioritize safety by following all policies and procedures, including the authority to stop work for safety concerns.
- Conduct metallurgical testing to support various optimization projects.
- Complete other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
- Work in diverse groups to identify and present on a business improvement initiative.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate student entering your Junior or Senior year.
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Mineral Process Engineering.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5, though 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Legal authorization to work full-time in the United States without sponsorship.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A curious mindset and a willingness to learn.
Location & details#
- Location: Kensington Mine near Juneau, Alaska.
- Term: Summer 2027 (May through August).
- Pay: $29.00 per hour.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Housing and food are provided at the remote mine camp.
- Physical demands include working in varied environmental conditions, navigating uneven surfaces, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
