About the role#
The City of Lawrence is hiring a Transportation Planning Intern to support the Lawrence - Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization. This is a part-time position with a maximum of 20 hours per week. You will work directly with planning staff to implement the organization's work plan and gain experience across a variety of municipal planning tasks.
What you'll do#
- Assist staff with the implementation of the MPO work plan.
- Conduct public outreach and participate in meetings.
- Help set up and prepare for meetings.
- Format, review, and edit document content.
- Write and design sections of reports.
- Gather, organize, and perform quality control on data.
- Interact with various local and state government officials.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college or university.
- Coursework in planning, public administration, geography, environmental studies, or a related field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong writing and editing skills with high attention to detail.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to pass a background check.
- Willingness to learn transportation planning principles.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud or ArcGIS is helpful but not required.
