About the role#
The Natural Resources Intern supports the Forestry and Natural Resources division by assisting with land management and forestry activities. This is a part-time, temporary position for Summer 2026, based at the City of Eden Prairie Maintenance Facility. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pm.
What you'll do#
- Identify, prioritize, and perform invasive species removal, including herbicide treatments.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of environmental volunteer events, such as tree plantings and native seed harvesting.
- Conduct forestry tasks, including the diseased tree program, tree inventory, and maintenance of young trees.
- Respond to noxious weed and tall grass complaints by inspecting sites, documenting findings, and mailing notifications.
- Maintain accurate records using Field Maps (ArcGIS).
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Forestry, Natural Resources Management, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
- Completion of a general Botany course or equivalent to demonstrate plant identification skills.
- Valid Driver’s License with an excellent driving record.
- Experience working in an outdoor environment and knowledge of trees and plants.
- Proficiency in basic technology or MS Office; experience with ArcGIS is preferred.
- Ability to obtain a Minnesota Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator license (Categories A, F, and J) within one month of employment.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, push, or pull at least 30 to 50 pounds, operate a motor vehicle, and work in all weather conditions.

- Pay: $16.00 to $19.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.
