About the role#
This is a 4-12 month internship starting in September 2026. You will join the Photonic Hardware team to support the full lifecycle of hardware for Ciena’s Photonic Line systems, including design, development, product introduction, and lifecycle management. Technologies of focus include Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, Raman amplifiers, ROADMs, Wavelength-Selective Switches, Optical Channel Monitors, and OTDR.
What you'll do#
- Support the Photonic Hardware team in hardware lifecycle management.
- Engage directly with hardware design and development processes.
- Perform laboratory work using electrical and optical test equipment.
- Write automation scripts to facilitate testing procedures.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Engineering.
- Strong programming proficiency in Python or Matlab.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in both in-person and remote settings.
- Intellectual curiosity.
- Knowledge of physical optics or optical networking technologies is considered an asset.

- Compensation: $25.00 - $34.00 per hour.
