About the role#
The Family Care Specialist Intern provides high-quality care, education, and support services to youth and families through the BRIDGES program. This role focuses on outreach, service coordination, and family engagement to support child development and family well-being. Interns gain hands-on experience in a direct care environment while working alongside experienced professionals.
What you'll do#
- Supervise children during workshops, seminars, and events at the BRIDGES site or off-site locations.
- Facilitate age-appropriate play activities and provide positive reinforcement using trauma-informed behavior modification techniques.
- Support childhood growth by ensuring families have access to educational and health services.
- Order and serve meals to youth and families during program activities.
- Assist in strengthening parent-child interactions and facilitate parent groups using strength-based strategies.
- Engage families through outreach, home visits, phone calls, and digital communication.
- Coordinate access to community resources and assist with client transportation when necessary.
- Maintain accurate member case records, including assessments, goal planning, and progress notes, using internal systems.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and reflective supervision.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Current junior or senior student pursuing a degree in Social Work, Psychology, Child Development, Human Services, or a related field.
- A strong passion for working with youth and families.
- Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
- Interest in gaining experience within a system of care or direct care environment.
- Applicants are subject to a background screening through the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration.
Location & details#
- Location: Lake Park, Florida.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Commitment: Up to 20 hours per week.
- Flexibility: Schedules are coordinated around academic commitments, with no shifts during university holidays or class times.
- Status: Paid internship.
