About the role#
As a Family Care Specialist Intern with Children's Home Society of Florida, you will provide care, education, and support services to youth and families. This role focuses on outreach, service coordination, and program navigation to help improve family well-being. You will gain hands-on experience in child development, trauma-informed care, and professional documentation within a human services setting.
What you'll do#
- Supervise children during workshops, seminars, and events at the BRIDGES site or off-site locations.
- Lead age-appropriate play activities and provide positive reinforcement.
- Implement trauma-informed behavior modification techniques as instructed.
- Ensure families have access to necessary educational and health services.
- Order and serve meals during workshops and activities.
- Assist in teaching positive parenting skills and facilitating parent groups.
- Engage families through outreach, home visits, and phone calls.
- Coordinate access to community resources and manage member case records.
- Enter data into internal systems and participate in team meetings and professional development.
- Provide or arrange transportation for clients when necessary.
What you'll need#
- You must be 21 years of age or older.
- Current junior or senior standing in a degree program such as Social Work, Psychology, Child Development, Human Services, or a related field.
- A strong interest in learning about systems of care and direct care environments.
- A commitment to maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
- Reliability and a willingness to learn in a team-based environment.
- Please note that all applicants are subject to a background screening through the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration.
Location & details#
- This internship is located in Lake Park, Florida.
- The position is on-site and paid.
- You may work up to 20 hours per week.
- Schedules are coordinated around your academic commitments and will not conflict with class times or holidays.
